Dr. Sean McDaniel, longtime Oklahoman and educator with nearly four decades of experience in the world of education, retired from public education in June of 2024 and is now focused on supporting educators and school districts along with other organizations who need the support. McDaniel has served as Superintendent of Schools in a number of districts in Oklahoma and Colorado, most recently for the Oklahoma City Public Schools District.
McDaniel began his career in education as a language arts instructor at Denver’s Highland High School from 1986-1988. He has served in several teaching, coaching and administrative capacities in both Colorado and Oklahoma. A proud graduate of Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Dr. McDaniel went on to earn his master’s degree in educational administration from NSU and his doctorate in educational leadership from Oklahoma State University. Last year marked his 39th year in education and 22nd as a district superintendent.
Dr. McDaniel is highly respected by his peers across the state and the country and was named Oklahoma Superintendent of the Year by the Cooperative Council of School Administrators (CCOSA) in 2018 and was selected as a finalist for the Urban Superintendent of the Year award in 2021 by the Council of Great City Schools. His knowledge and expertise are recognized at the state level, where he has served on the governor’s education advisory board, the state superintendent’s advisory council and on the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association’s board of directors.
McDaniel has been recognized for his leadership and service, most recently, he has been recognized as the Innovator of the Year by 405 Business Magazine (2023), Oklahoma’s Most Admired CEO by the Journal-Record (2024), and received the prestigious John A. Reed, Jr. Spirit of the Community Award from OKC’s Fairview Baptist Church in 2022. McDaniel has been a featured presenter and keynote speaker on a number of topics at multiple venues and events. Topics have included the bond authorization process, bond campaigning leading up to the election, leadership development and building leadership teams, organizational culture, customer service in the workplace, and roles & responsibilities of leadership, to name a few.
The McDaniel Consulting Group, LLC was created as a means to leverage the talents and expertise of a team of leaders in order to provide solutions for organizations who are in the developmental stages of planning and initiative implementation or who are in need of improving in identified areas where support is critical.
